The Maths in Motion Challenge has now become well established in the calendars of schools in 14 countries as a way of engaging children of all ages and abilities in an exciting and motivating mathematics based project. The software is suitable for all ages from 8 to 16. It is an ideal base for a primary school maths project, for a STEM based ‘transition years’ project or for general use with older students throughout secondary school. It is a Linked Scheme for the CREST Bronze Award.
The Challenge involves students working together in small teams. These teams set up virtual racing cars and then compete against each other in a series of Grands Prix type races throughout the year in the hope of becoming World Champions. This activity involves a wide range of basic mathematical skills, some practical, being used and applied
We are hoping to inspire youngsters to consider taking up careers in engineering. Young engineers are needed in a wide variety of industries throughout the World and we hope that in taking part in this challenge young people will ‘get interested’ enough to want to find out more.
